Children process death differently. Here are some things adults can do to support their process.

  • Listen to their feelings. They may not always express themselves in words.
  • Be open to their questions. All questions need not have answers. Wonder together.
  • Let them know you miss the person who has died too.
  • Let them see your grief and also that you are ok.
  • Talk about what you remember about the person.
  • Give them a sense of continuity in line with your beliefs of life and death.
  • Use metaphors and stories.
  • Let them sense (if possible) an okayness from you about death being a part of life
