The roles are beginning to shift. There’s a sense of responsibility— not out of obligation, but because we care. This thread tugs at us. We come together to name these truths. Not to fix, or figure it all out, but to sit with what is real. To witness each other with tenderness. Inviting you to a listening circle on ageing parents.

Close or not,
you’re intertwined
with the faces that welcomed you to life,
eyes that watched over (or didn’t)
hands that held you (or didn’t)
Maybe now it’s different
in between your hands and theirs
is discord, distance, delusion
regret, hurt or confusion
guilt, shame, exclusion
Maybe there also was/is still
gratitude, love, familiarity
safety, warmth or similarity
and a wordless solidarity
Maybe you had to walk away
maybe you have to stay away
for jobs, building your life or self-preservation
– or maybe they walked away
but their steps now are slower
and the lines on their hands
more wrinkled with memory
And you want to hold them
or let them go on
on the path all must walk in full
but the fear knows not where to go
nor does the grief
For it too is wrinkled
with all said and unsaid
amidst a life you’re still figuring out
The quest for stability
torn with duty, responsibility
Walking
The same path as they are
Just behind, maybe different
Or maybe all the same
