Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based group modality. Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) prevents relapse of anxiety and mood disorders. It combines the tools of cognitive therapy with the practice of mindfulness meditation.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence based eight-week program for prevention of relapse for those who have had depression or anxiety in the past and are well now.
This eight week course will help you to :
- understand habitual patterns of the mind and choose another way of being
- notice depressive cycles before they occur
- engage with your mind and life with greater intimacy and kindness.
The course is facilitated by Sandy Dias Andrade, certified MBCT Teacher through the Center for Mindfulness, University of California, San Diego, USA.
What is MBCT?
MBCT is emerging as one of the fastest growing mindfulness based interventions. It is based on the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) eight week program, developed by Jon Kabat Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
Zindel Segal, Mark Williams and John Teasdale adapted the MBSR program to especially support people who had suffered from repeated bouts of depression in their lives.
MBCT combines mindfulness meditations and aspects of cognitive therapy. Participants learn to apply the insights from the practice to their daily lives. It is more than a relapse prevention program. It is a whole new way of being! It involves a particular way of inquiry into experience that a trained facilitator holds space for.
Who is it for ?
It is particularly useful to those who have had depression and/or anxiety. It has been found applicable to other clinical conditions as well.
The UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has endorsed MBCT as an effective treatment for prevention of relapse. Research has shown participants develop improved efficacy in recognizing habitual patterns of mind.
